Okay, so the Prez has gone. I was talking to my friend in Islamabad. It was 12.30 pm and she was asleep when I called.
“Huh…looo…” she drawled.
“Hi!” I said chirpily.
“What?”
“Are you asleep?”
“I was…”
“So go back to sleep…muaah…”
“Hehe…”
“So, talk?
“Yes.”
“After listening to me you can’t go back to sleep…Why were you sleeping?”
They had been celebrating the downfall of the man I like. So, all right. I can be friends with people who don’t like what I like. There was a party, everyone got drunk. Then she and another friend, a woman, went for a long walk…in the early dark hours of the dawn they went and slept on a lawn.

Somehow, the moment she said it, I thought of another such moment. We had gone to the Niagara Falls when we were in Canada for a relative’s wedding. After all the stuff, a relative’s relative, my mother, cousin, nephew and I took off. We did all the things tourists do (okay I also got to eat the olives from everyone’s salad) and then we wanted to watch the fireworks display.
It was crowded near the benches. We ran up the sloping lawn at the top end and lay down. It was nice and dewy
That is when the sky burst into kaleidoscopic colours. I did a stupid thing. I took the camcorder and began shooting…I was watching the beautiful sight through the LCD screen and missed out on something larger. Why the hell was it so important to capture this?
There was a drizzle. I put the camcorder away. The night was coloured. I pulled out a blade of grass and held it long. It stuck to my fingers.
Moral of the story: If you hold on to something, it does stick to you. And by you.

"I can be friends with people who don’t like what I like."
