Toy soldiers and 26/11

'TOY SOLDIERS: Action figures appear to be guarding the Taj waterfront'.

Is this some spoof? Whose idea is it to have these figures, and the waterfront belongs to the whole stretch not one structure. This assumes that even after the incident, there will be such an attack with people holed inside and our security having to fight them from the outside. It just does not convey that we will be prepared and the attackers will be handled before they can enter any building. If at all we must have these toys to play with, then these figures should be facing the waterfront and not have their backs to it.

It is quite sickening and we will see more of this in the coming days.

I will try and bring these sidelights and, while someone somewhere will be pleased as punch over them, you won't get the pretty picture here under the label 'countdown to 26/11'.

  2. Apart from the obvious stupidity it conveys, these toy soldiers resemble the big built, muscular US marines! Of course these are put there with an eye on the international media...So what do we want to show ( or believe) here? Are we embarrassed to show a dark skinned mustachioed commando saving us or we just want to believe that our soldiers actually look like that?

Anyway this was funny.. trust you will continue to highlight more of these !

  3. Farzana, you are a legend.
I figured out you were a lot naive, emotionally immature and irrational than you understandably let on but this piece of observation you made has shown how hilarious it can get when they actually come out in your post.

LOL, I can't believe for all the playfull and harmless possibilities that photo of "toy soldiers" could be of on first impressions, the only one that made sense to you was that of it being a security measure put in place to ward of evil terrorists. LOL

    LOL

If you had thought it could be a spoof then a casual second examination should have revealed a barbie doll sized toy soldier carefully placed on the stone parapet, especially to a mumbaikar who surely must be familiar with that walkway.

If you still weren't convinced you could have googled which would have thrown up another one with the caption.

"Toy soldiers are displayed for sale by a street hawker in front of the Taj Mahal Hotel, ahead of the first anniversary of the militant attacks in Mumbai that killed 166 people, November 16, 2009. The hotel was one of the sites of the attacks."

But I am glad you posted this blunder instead of your usual cynical angles cos it explains a lot about how you view the world consciously or otherwise. Like how your mind tends to seek out conspiracy theories.:)

I haven't had such a good laugh at the expense of someone's ridiculous error of judgment and careless observational skills.

    Thank you, Farzana. :)

Mistakes like this can be sort of endearing.
I think I'm beginning to like you, LOL.

How about some jihadis become toys of bigger powers than FV can even imagine?

Great point about resemblance to marines and the international appeal. It is like other dolls that are blonde and blue-eyed. I don’t think we even realise anything about embarrassment; it is just that our minds are so trapped in the idea of a saviour being of a certain kind, and going by trends he has to be clean-shaven and muscular. We already have a light colour fixation.

I will continue to highlight this regardless of people lolling about! I realise it also means becoming part of the farce even if it is to question it…

I am humbled by your patience in waiting for me to be all that you had already figured out. And if I let on, then why would this be a eureka moment?

Did you read the entire post? Or did you just read what you wanted, started googling to ‘catch me’ and then talk about my conspiracy theories and the fact that I did not observe properly?

I said it could be a spoof, so whose idea was it? Why should I run a second search when the caption and the photograph are from the TOI (did you know that or did you find the one provided by Reuters which gives you that info? … http://www.daylife.com/photo/0cVj8zxeo47SA)

So, someone places a toy soldier anywhere, and I have said it was a toy, how does it negate what I have said? I repeat that it sends out signals that our security agencies are manning a waterfront assuming a ‘landmark’ structure will be attacked again. Whoever did it is stupid and insensitive. It could be the TOI, it could be anyone. And the fact that these dolls are being sold makes it even worse because they remain the same ‘characters’ conveying the same message. If it is meant for kids, then do we need children to be given such toys to play with? I know you will throw names of western comic figures. I have always maintained I don’t like children being used. The timing, the area, the idea are all devious.

Whether these toys are placed where they were in the picture I put up or the one you saw, and whether they are displayed in someone’s shelf or carried in the lap, it means the same thing to me.

I haven't had such a good laugh at the expense of someone's ridiculous error of judgment and careless observational skills.
    Thank you, Farzana. :)

You are welcome, for you will get more of this, and I do feel touched by the hand of god for providing some laughs to one who might be seeking them. Unfortunately, your reasons stand invalidated; I do feel a bit bad about that. Since the error is no longer really an error and therefore not endearing, you may cease and desist from liking me. It was anyway a newly-acquired taste, so your palate has still not got accustomed to its pungency :)

Perhaps you’d want to celebrate such freedom with a ROTFL?!
