If it is a specific issue, then the standards indeed need to be similar. 'Same' becomes difficult due to position, environment etc. However, if it is POVs you are taking a swipe at, then one cannot respond uniformly to everything. Do we see the elite and the poor in the same light? The robber and the terrorist? Are the compulsions not different?

If you were just making a general comment and I have taken off, then forget about this. Just my Moses moment!

JJ:

Agreed in the main. However, this sort of thing is quite prevalent in the corporate world too. In fact, quite a common occurrence. As regards what brand of booze the journalists would go for (and you know my position on them in general), let me tell you that corporate houses send their PR guys to the Press Club where they drink ordinary liquor and feed info/give feelers.

Btw, have you been reading pieces, supposedly humorous, from almost all kinds of people about the 'gifts' they receive during Diwali? No she isn't. She may not have played by the rule book, but she didn't do anything wrong by creating fresh income avenues for her NGO. Rules and regulations are for the guidance of the intelligent and the blind obedience of the idiot. Couldn't agree more. May I elaborate a li...FV,

Couldn't agree more. May I elaborate a little.

1. Bedi may have sinned, but am I worthy enough to cast the first stone?

2. In any case, showing up Bedi's corruption and discrediting her is hardly an argument against her Jan Lokpal Bill. I am saying this even though I do not like the Jan Lokpal thing at all. The hypocracy of Diggy Raja and co becomes more evident when we weigh the two figures of Rs 1.76 Lakh crore of 2G vs travel bills of Rs 14000/- odd. I know the first figure may be notional etc. But the difference in scale is too stark to ignore. This is no condonation of the act, however.

3. Media is driven by TRPs. Period. They will go where they find the highest ad revenue beckoning them. Take it or leave it. They are neither anti-Hindu, nor anti-Muslim. Whether it is right for media to be driven by viewership figures alone is an entirely different debate.

4. The dismaying truth is that as a society, we all have flexible morals. We all - without exception - prefer to have different standards for ourselves and for others. And nobody dare question us about these!

I know it sounds like the Sermon on the Mount. But hope it makes sense.Free and Footloosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16911514463551198170noreply@blogger.com
