Sunday ka Funda

"Where there's a carcass, there will be vultures"

- Malayan proverb

This truly disgusts me. You are being urged to watch the live mourning of the grief-stricken family of the nurse who committted suicide after a prank call she took regarding Kate Middleton's pregnancy.

What would anyone get from this? Is personal tragedy now all about downloading apps? Will they download tears, too?

Regarding Barack Obama, too, his condolence address on the school shootout in Connecticut has been telecast. This is just commercialising a crime and its tragic consequences.

At least vultures don't pretend to grieve.

PS: I've blanked out the SMS number and website url. Also, fused two ads that appeared separately.

  1. Fascinating, Farzana. I know your weekly Sunday ka Funda installment is, by and large, meant to enshrine certain humorous (if not ludicrous) takes from the web, etc.; but . . .

    >>At least vultures don't pretend to grieve.<<

For me, this is such a profound statement. The implication, as I read it, is that the subscribers to the above "service" are emotional vultures, effectively "feeding" off the emotion of the moment, hour, day or week -- however long, in a manner of speaking, the "string" pullers can stretch it out so as to make a buck ($$). Does this make the string pullers a higher or lower order of vulture, or something else?

One senses; but I hadn't quite thought about it that way. Thank you.

I will mull it over further.

I think you have said what I meant. As regards the hierarchy, I consider them a lower form because it is not a matter of survival for them, although they might stretch it to mean that in a cut-throat competitive world. All this makes for pretence - the animal instinct prevailing over the human than the bird of prey.

PS: My 'Sunday ka Funda' series, besides some sort of humour off the web, also contain thoughts and music that are relevant to an event or a state of mind. I'm crazy enough to spend an hour or two looking for what I think is the perfect fit :-)
